QVCS/QVCS-Pro: 3.10.12 Release Available
The 3.10.12 release is available for download from the usual locations:
http://www.qumasoft.com/QVCSSetup.exe
or
http://www.qumasoft.com/qvcs.zip
This is a 'free' update to users who have purchased their license within the past year.
This release is exclusively a bug fix build:
- Fix bug that could cause a crash of QWin when using the 'login as' feature. If the workfile location for the new user didn't exist, then QWin behavior was unstable, and could cause a crash. Now fixed.
QVCS-Enterprise: 2.0 Beta News
QVCS-Enterprise 2.0 is heading for a GA release at the end of August.
The 2.0.8 beta was published today. It is feature complete -- meaning that coding for all major features for 2.0 is finished. The remaining changes before code freeze for the GA release will be documentation updates, and bug fixes.
This latest 2.0.8 beta adds:
- Support for directory level gets, label operations, and remove label operations.
- Support for colored file icons to assist in communicating file status. You can choose to enable file color icons via the user preferences dialog.
- Add several useful web site links to the client help menu.
- Add ability to choose what timestamp to apply to a workfile when performing a get operation.
- Added a properties dialog to the embedded visual compare tool. This allows the user to choose whether to ignore changes in whitespace, etc.
- Add support for auto-update of client applications. After this build, if you run a client that is recognized as out-of-date by the server, the server will automatically send an updated client application to the client. When the client restarts the client application, the updated client application will be used.
- Add obsolete files filter so the user can display only obsolete files.
- Change the admin tool so that a PROJECT_ADMIN user can use it to perform project level administration. The ADMIN user retains the ability to administer any project.
- Provide an auto-refresh feature in the client. The user enables this from the user preferences dialog.
- Add a dialog to help with undo checkout requests. The dialog allows the user to choose what should be done to the workfile after the archive has been unlocked.
- Add support for file groups on the client. If file groups are enabled, then selecting one file that is a member of a file group will automatically select all other members of that file group. A file group is the set of files that have the same name, but different file extensions.

The goal is to wrap up 2.0 for release by the end of August.
QVCS-Enterprise: Pricing Changes
QVCS-Enterprise pricing per user will increase with the 2.0 release. Final pricing has not been set yet, but the likely price per user will be either $39/user or $49/user, compared with pricing today that is around $25/user (with a minumum of 4 users).
The other change with pricing is that you'll be able to buy single user licenses, instead of having to buy a minimum of a 4-user license.
QVCS-Enterprise pricing for updates will also increase to the QVCS standard of $20/user. (The current price for QVCS-Enterprise license updates is $12/user).
You'll be able to order at the old prices up to the date of the 2.0 release. After the 2.0 release, the new prices will apply. Note that if you order now, you'll be able to update to 2.0 for 'free', since its release will fall within 1 year of your purchase date.
QVCS-Enterprise: Forum Highlights: 'ignore case' problems
There was a thread on the QVCS-Enterprise forums here:
http://qumasoft.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=742#
that highlights the kind of problems you'll see if you have users who use differing case in their file names. The thread also helped flush out a bug in the way QVCS-Enterprise was handling the 'ignore case' project setting.
That bug is now fixed (in the 1.2.13 release, and in the 2.0 code base).
